Better support. Improved pressure distribution. More comfort with every step.

High arches may appear strong, but they can make it difficult for your feet to distribute pressure and absorb impact comfortably. When too little of the middle of your foot contacts the ground, more pressure may be placed on your heels and the balls of your feet.

At The FootLab, our Certified Pedorthists evaluate your feet, footwear, walking gait and pressure points. We then mold and build custom orthotics designed specifically to support your high arches and improve your comfort. Your orthotics are made in our on-site lab by the same Certified Pedorthist who evaluates you. The entire process takes about one hour, and you leave with your finished orthotics.

Are High Arches Causing Your Foot Pain?

A high-arched foot—also called a cavus foot—has a noticeably raised arch that places less of the middle of the foot in contact with the ground.

High Arches / Supination Feet

Some people have naturally high arches and never experience problems. For others, the shape of the foot creates concentrated pressure, reduced shock absorption and discomfort during everyday activities.

High arches may contribute to:

  • Heel pain
  • Ball-of-foot pain
  • Arch pain or tightness
  • Corns and calluses
  • Foot fatigue
  • Ankle instability
  • Difficulty finding comfortable shoes
  • Discomfort while standing or walking
  • Pain during running, exercise or sports
  • Increased stress on muscles and joints

Symptoms can become more noticeable when you stand on hard surfaces, work on your feet, walk long distances or participate in high-impact activities.

How Custom Orthotics Help High Arches

Depending on your evaluation, custom orthotics for high arches may help:

  • Support Your Arches Comfortably
  • Distribute Pressure More Evenly
  • Improve Cushioning and Shock Absorption
  • Reduce Painful Pressure Points
  • Improve Foot Stability
  • Reduce Foot Fatigue
  • Improve Comfort During Daily Activities

Your High-Arch Evaluation at The FootLab

Your appointment begins with a Certified Pedorthist who takes the time to understand your symptoms, activities and goals.

We Listen to You. We discuss where you feel discomfort, when it occurs, which activities make it worse and what you would like to improve.

We Evaluate Your Feet. We examine your arch height, foot shape, flexibility and areas of increased pressure, tenderness or callus formation.

We Analyze Your Walking Gait. Watching you walk helps us understand how your feet contact the ground, carry pressure and move through each step.

We Look at Your Footwear. The shoes you wear affect how your orthotics should be designed. Bring the shoes you use most often for work, exercise and everyday activities.

We Mold and Build Your Orthotics. Your orthotics are molded and fabricated in our on-site lab by the same Certified Pedorthist who evaluates you.

We Check the Fit. Before you leave, we fit your orthotics to your shoes, check your comfort and make any necessary adjustments.

The complete evaluation, fabrication and fitting process takes approximately one hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are high arches always a problem? No. Some people have naturally high arches without pain or difficulty. Support may be helpful when high arches are associated with concentrated pressure, fatigue, instability or discomfort during daily activities.

Can custom orthotics lower my arches? Custom orthotics do not permanently change the underlying structure or height of your arches. They are designed to support your feet, distribute pressure and improve comfort.

Why do high arches cause heel and ball-of-foot pain? Because less of the middle of a high-arched foot contacts the ground, a greater amount of pressure may be concentrated beneath the heel and forefoot.

Are custom orthotics better than store-bought arch supports? A store-bought insert provides a standard shape and level of support. Custom orthotics are molded and designed for your individual feet, symptoms, pressure points, footwear and activities.

Will my orthotics fit in my current shoes? We consider your footwear when designing your orthotics. Bring the shoes you wear most often so we can evaluate their fit and make your orthotics compatible with them whenever possible.

How long does the appointment take? The FootLab evaluation, fabrication and fitting process takes approximately one hour. You leave your appointment with your finished custom orthotics.
