Arch Pain can make everyday walking uncomfortable and it can make participating in athletic activities unbearable.
Your feet literally take a pounding just walking and the forces placed on your feet playing sports are incredible. The foot is made up of 26 bones and 33 joints. The bones are held together by ligaments and supported and controlled by tendons (which are attached to muscles). The function of the foot is to be rigid enough to allow a person to push off during the walking/running stride but also to be flexible enough to allow for walking over uneven terrain without breaking the foot. It is this rigid, yet flexible nature of the foot that causes the problem.
The human foot is as unique to an individual as their finger prints; there are no two feet that are the same. While most feet contain the same number of bones, joints, ligaments and tendons, the way all that “stuff” fits together is not the same. In some feet it fits and works together better than others.
While there are many possible reasons why this might be, the most common is due to improper foot and arch support. Generally speaking shoes don’t support feet, they protect feet. The inserts found in off the shelf footwear cannot possibly provide proper arch support for everyones feet since our feet are all different from person to person. The first, easiest solution to dealing with arch pain is to have a custom insole/orthotic made for your unique foot and shoes. Custom arch supports will support the foot in the most optimum position allowing it to function as it was intended.
